Domestic and Family Violence is Never Okay
Domestic and family violence occurs when a person uses violence, abuse and intimidating behavior against someone they’re close to. It is any behavior that causes fear or harm – and it doesn’t have to be physical – it can be psychological too.
If you are experiencing this type of violence it is never your fault. Domestic violence is a crime and the abuser is breaking the law.
Domestic abuse can come in many forms, such as:
- physical assault
- sexual assault
- verbal abuse
- emotional abuse
- financial abuse
- stalking
- controlling behavior – such as not letting someone see friends or family
Domestic and family violence can be seriously damaging to children who witness it and experience it. They can grow up never feeling safe in their own home, and never learning how to foster positive relationships.
Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home. If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence it is important, they get support as soon as they can.
